Hudson Entertainment announced a new exclusive survival horror game for the Wii titled appropriately Calling. It sounds like a take on the recent horror films like The Ring or One Missed Call. Basically, you visit a website that just has a hit counter on it. The number on the counter is said to represent the amount of people who have died after visiting the page. Viewers are drawn to a mysterious place that contains the memories of the dead. It’s up to you to figure out what’s going on & how to stop it. The big selling point is the plainness of it. According to Hudson, “It is a game that revolves around real people and real emotions – no chain saws or suits of armor. The game is traditional survival horror at its finest.” Hmmm…after the dreck that the survival horror genre has been getting lately, I’m gonna watch this one. I would love to see it get back to what made it great — actual survival horror. The direction that the big franchises like Resident Evil & Silent Hill have gone over the years seem to have left that part out of the equation in lieu of more action/adventure. I’ll bring you more as we get closer to the 2010 release…
