Daily Gaming Tidbits 07/13/09

  • Today’s Tidbits seems almost like an EA edition…
  • The whole Dana White (President of the UFC)/EA Sports thing has been running rampant on the net for the last couple of weeks now. I’ve declined to touch it as it was all rumor & heresy as far as I was concerned. But, MMAJunkie.com has a story that has quotes directly from Mr White himself. Basically, the UFC approached EA Sports about a year & a half ago to make a MMA game. EA basically told them they wouldn’t even discuss it as MMA isn’t a real sport. So they took their business to THQ. The results were a smashingly successful game that has shipped over 2 million units in 2 months. As we saw at the EA Press Briefing at E3, they are now working on a MMA title. Thus came the now confirmed rumors that White will be blacklisting any UFC fighter who signs with EA.
“I’m not tap-dancing around this thing or whatever,” White said. “I’m telling you straight-up, I’m at war with them right now. That’s how I look at it.” Interesting to say the least. I’m curious to see how it all plays out. Keep in mind that this is just one side of the store. I’d love to hear what EA has to say about it. So, if any EA folks are reading this, contact me. I’d love to post your side of things…
  • Speaking of EA, a buddy of mine posted the below YouTube video on 360Junkies about how to say ‘EA Sports’. Check it out…
  • For those wanting to keep track, as of this writing at noon PST on Monday, July 13th, 3 days after started tracking, Battlefield 1943 has logged just under 32 million kills on the Xbox 360 & just over 17 million kills on the PS3. Can we say “Smash Hit”?…
  • On that note, if you’re still having trouble connecting in Battlefield 1943, the EA folks have have a help guide up that may help you…
  • Here’s another one I’ve been hearing about for the last week or so but haven’t touched: a Michael Jackson video game. I have no idea what it will be, but it has apparently been in the works for awhile now & is due out this holiday season. There have been enough other organizations that have picked up the story that I feel comfortable posting it. As soon as I can di up some more info, I’ll post it…
  • The latest EA podcast went up on Friday. This week’s theme is ‘Casual Friday’. If you missed it, check it out here
