Bioshock 2 Delayed? Cool!
The news broke a couple of hours ago that Bioshock 2 is being delayed & will now launch sometime in the first half of 2010. Typically, this is something I would throw in the Daily Gaming Tidbits, but every now & then I will make a special post on it (this would be number two for m today). In this case, I’m doing because of all the cries of sadness I’m seeing amongst my friends, my Inbox, Twitter & the forums I frequent. Let me tell everyone this now: delays are typically not bad. If a developer or publisher tells me a game will be delayed, I say so be it. Most of the time (I say most because there are always exceptions), the publisher will lose more on a delay than the consumer will. This holiday season has a massive amount of AAA titles coming. Starting with Halo 3: ODST in September, we have games like Guitar Hero 5, Tekken 6, Modern Warfare 2, Assassin’s Creed 2, The Saboteur, Army of Two: The 40th Day, Brutal Legend, NHL 2K10, DJ Hero, Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time, Tony Hawk: Ride, Forza 3, Left 4 Dead 2, & a bunch more! It’s not like there won’t be anything to play. For the consumer, a delay means that the developer has that much more time to make the game better. Would you rather have the game come out on time & be terrible or would you rather wait a bit & have a better game? It’s the publisher (2K Games in this case) that will hurt because they run the risk of killing the hype, loss of marketing dollars, loss of potential holiday sales, along with the possible public backlash if it doesn’t meet expectation. So, what I’m trying to say is don’t fret. Bioshock 2 is still coming & it can only get better with the delay. But, if you disagree, please, hit me up in the comments. I’d love to hear from you…

I agree usually they are not bad, it is also smart because of(as you said) all the competition. Hopefully the delay is for the best, but the only place I could see them failing is in multi-player.
