THQ announced a new post-apocalyptic FPS title called Metro 2033 for the PC & Xbox 360 platforms. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because it’s based on a novel with the same name by Dmitry Glukhovsky. The story follows the world 20 years after a cataclysmic event that has all but eliminated mankind & turned the surface world into a poison wasteland. The few survivors in Moscow managed to get underground into the Metro station. Now, 20 years into the future, you are Artyom, born just before the catastrophy & raised in the Metro Station. A new threat has been discovered & it will be up to you to venture out into the world & try to warn the rest of humanity.
The whole set up seems to be following in the footsteps of Fallout 3. Not that I mind all that much. If THQ can recapture the same magic that BethSoft did with the Fallout franchise, I will be one happy gamer. The marketing has already began for this one, with a Twitter & Facebook account already in play. Or, you can check out the first teaser on their main site. Hit me up in the comments & let me know where we are at on the whole post-apocalyptic future setting. Has it been played out for you yet?
