2009’s Top Games On Xbox LIVE

It’s been an interesting year to say the least. That’s “interesting” in a good way. 2009 brought a virtual ton of fantastic gaming experiences & 2010 doesn’t look to be much different. One of the key components of today’s gaming culture is online play, be it through competitive or cooperative multiplay or downloadable games. The folks at Microsoft dutifully tracks all the playtime on their Xbox LIVE service & posts it through Major Nelson’s Blog each week. We now have a tally of how the entire year stacked up. I can’t say I’m super surprised at any of it though. LIVE titles were dominated by Halo & Call of Duty. Halo Wars sold really well (I think it broke 3 million units worldwide), so I do find it a bit curious that the demo made the list, but the full title didn’t crack the top 20. In fact, the same thing happened to both Left 4 Dead 2 & UFC 2009. Anyway, XBLA was dominated by the DICE juggernaut (Battlefield 1943), Behemoth’s little-game-that-could (Castle Crashers) & Red Lynx’s physics racer (Trials HD). Judging from that list though, Uno must be the ultimate casual game as it’s been out for three & a half years & still in the top 20. As far as Indie titles go, Mr Silva’s zombies-meet-Smash TV game, I MAED A GAM3 W1TH ZOMB1ES!!!1, topped the list. It’s a good time & for only a buck, there isn’t any reason for every 360 owner not to have it in their library.
