Daily Gaming Tidbits 03/05/10

  • Xbox LIVE top dog Marc Whitten (aka Notwen) announced a change in the Terms of Use & Code of Conduct this morning. You can read his open letter here or check out the update code here. Ultimately, they just loosened the policies on what’s acceptable for your GamerTag (more specifically, sexual orientation is now permitted)…
  • If you will be in the San Francisco area next Wednesday night (March 10th), are over 21, & want to get a little hands-on time with God of War III, then you may want to take a look at this
  • Remember that Batman: Arkham Asylum GotY edition I told you about a few days ago? The one sporting 3D? Yeah, it won’t be coming to North America. :( It”l be for Australia, Asia & Europe…
  • If you have an original Xbox LIVE account (i.e. one you haven’t migrated over to the Xbox 360, then you’ll be given 400 MP, 3 months of LIVE & a beta invite for Halo: Reach when your account closes down on April 15th. You should have seen a letter that looks something like this
  • Sony officially unveiled SOCOM 4 yesterday. Below you’ll find the debut trailer & if you want to check it out with Director’s Commentary (yeah, Zipper did a commentary track for the trailer), then you’ll want to go here
  • The Rock Band Network officially opened up to the masses this week. Look for over 100 new songs available for download from artists such as the Shins, the Hold Steady, Bang Camaro, Of Montreal, Steve Vai and many more. Plus, I’m hearing that there are other high profile artists that will be hitting the service soon like Smashing Pumpkins & Flight of the Conchords…
  • BioShock 2 has now shipped over 3 million copies (worldwide)…
  • GTA IV has now broke the 15 million unit mark…
  • Red Dead Redemption has had it’s release date shifted to May 18, instead of April 23rd. That makes May a painful month for gamers’ wallets as they still have titles like Alan Wake & Super Mario Galaxy 2 to contend with…
  • THQ may move one of it’s end of fiscal 2010 titles into their fiscal 2011 calendar. That includes L.A. NoireMafia IIMax Payne 3 and Sid Meier’s Civilization V…
  • The team at Siliconera picked up on a Sony patent that will cause game demos to ‘degrade’. Basically, you’ll get the full game at first. But, after a certain amount of game time or a certain number of sessions, features will ‘degrade’, meaning you could lose certain functionality or have certain items be replaces with less powerful ones. My thoughts: Sony, that’s  a bad idea. I think it’ll serve to tease & upset your consumer more than motivate them to run out & make the purchase.
  • Shaun White is teaming up with Ubisoft for Shaun White’s Skateboarding
  • THQ’s Metro 2033 has officially gone gold & is on track for it’s March 16th launch…
