One of the bullet points for the DSi is the camera peripheral. So one would think that we would be buried in games and apps that use it. While we do ave some titles available, “buried” isn’t a term that we could apply to it. That’s unfortunate too as using a camera as a game mechanic offers plenty of intriguing possibilities. The folks at Neko Entertainment recognize the issue and proudly present their answer: Faceez. It’s an app that will take ordinary pictures and animate them in a really cool and convincing way…
The entire process is a snap (pun intended). Take a picture with the DSi’s on-board camera & edit it until your crying from laughing so hard. Basically, You take a picture of a face, be it a real one or one you draw on a piece of paper. There’s a built in template in the software that you need to adhere to (because if you don’t the animations will look weird). Once you have your image, it will give you a quick demo of the animation abilities. You’ll see your pic move it’s eyes & mouth, even eating popcorn. It’s a really neat effect and was fun to check out.
Faceez has a lot of customizing options to play around with as well. Changing the background, adding different parts and pieces to your image, etc…. Ever wanted to see what you would look like with an elephant trunk? You’ll find out here. Want to dress up like a pirate? That’s an option as well. Or, you can just randomize everything & see what the app churns out for you. You can even export your pics to FaceBook, although you can’t do it from within the app itself. You’ll have to leave Faceez and use the DSi Camera itself to upload the pics.
Overall, for $2, Faceez is a nifty little app that will make you laugh for a bit. While I don’t see much lasting appeal for the older crowd, the younger set will probably have a blast with it for quite some time. With up to 20 face images & up to 100 total saved Faceez, there’s plenty of space to save your favorites. If I had any complaint at all, it would be the overwhelming desire to actually do something with my Faceez. It would have been great to have some mini-games or something in the package that allowed me to play with my creations. But, considering the $2 price point, that complaint is just a minor one.
