Last week, Activision announced Guitar Hero 5 (see my coverage here) with almost no details beyond "the ability to drop in and out of songs and change band members, instruments and difficulty levels on the fly." Well, now we have a little more to go on. In a press release today, they said that you will indeed be able to drop in & out of games on the fly. A feature sorely lacking in both the Guitar Hero & Rock Band franchises. But, the coolest thing I said was that you can now have your band set up any way you want. If you want two drummers, you can. If you want three guitars and a microphone, you can do that too. Any combination is possible. All your Guitar Hero: World Tour songs will be compatible with Guitar Hero 5 & will be updated to reflect any new features that the new title will provide. It will also feature tracks from 85 of the hottest bands of today and the biggest classic acts including; Kings of Leon, The Rolling Stones, The White Stripes, Santana, Vampire Weekend, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, plus more than 30 artists from a variety of music genres that will be making their music-rhythm video game debut.
Here is how the press release describes the new modes: “Party Play, where players can jump in or drop out of gameplay seamlessly; RockFest, a comprehensive competitive experience available featuring five new head-to-head modes playable online or in your living room; and the ability to play the entire set-list from the first time the game is turned on.”
Lastly, we got a taste of the new set list with 8 new tracks announced:
The Rolling Stones – Sympathy for the Devil
Bob Dylan – All Along The Watchtower
The White Stripes – Blue Orchid
Santana – No One To Depend On (LIVE)
Vampire Weekend – A-Punk
Tom Petty – Runnin Down a Dream
Johnny Cash – Ring of Fire
Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire
