Rock Band Restock 02/23-02/25

Rock Band Restock 02/23-02/25
Next week, MTV Games & the Harmonix crew will be bringing a couple of tracks from the Finnish band H.I.M. For the uninitiated, His Infernal Majesty (H.I.M.) has had most of their success overseas. But, they did have their breakout hit here in the ‘States called Wings of a Butterfly back in 2005. Look for that track pack along with singles from Marilyn Manson & The Police… Bookmark It Hide Sites

Zero Punctuation: Mass Effect 2
Yahtzee is checking out Mass Effect 2 this week. Predictably, he commends the writing. But, the gameplay? Hmmmm…lets just say there he didn’t take to the changes from the first game… Bookmark It Hide Sites

Midway Leaves The Marketplace

Midway Leaves The Marketplace
Got a hankering for some old school Smash TV action on your Xbox 360? Well, hopefully you picked it up already as it’s no longer available on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. In fact, there’s a handful of Midway arcade titles that are now MIA including Cyberball, Defender, Paperboy, Root Beer Tapper, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Robotron 2084, Joust, & Gauntlet. Remember when Midway’s financial difficulties became headlines & Warner Bros picked up the majority of Midway’s properties? Well, this is the fallout from that. As licenses change hands, old contracts become null...

Red Dead Redemption Obey’s ‘The Law’

Red Dead Redemption Obey’s ‘The Law’
When one lists the games they are most looking forward to in 2010, it’s easy to forget about Rockstar’s western opus, Red Dead Redemption. The Red Dead Revolver sequel looks like it will be what I had hoped Gun would have been back in 2005. Basically, it’s what the offspring would be if Grand Theft Auto & the Man With No Name trilogy of spaghetti western films were to mate. Here’s the latest trailer for you below… Bookmark It Hide Sites

Left 4 Dead Tidbits

Left 4 Dead Tidbits
Due to a fortunate trip to Rapture (the review will be coming soon), I missed a lot of news that broke last week. So, over the next couple of posts, I’ll try to bring everyone up to speed. First on the hit list is the Left 4 Dead franchise. We all know about The Passing, a new campaign heading to Left 4 Dead 2 next month. It plans to introduce the original four survivors from the first game (Zoey, Bill, Francis, & Louis) to the four from the sequel (Nick, Ellis, Rochelle, & Coach), set between Dead Center & Dark Carnival. But, there’s still holes in the story so Valve has...

Zero Punctuation: Borderlands

Zero Punctuation: Borderlands
Looks like Yahtzee didn’t really care for Borderlands. While most of his points are valid (like the interface issue), I can’t say I would be as harsh on it as he was. Hopefully I get my review written soon so you can see my thoughts… Bookmark It Hide Sites

Microsoft Throws A Block Party

Microsoft Throws A Block Party
A lot of you know that I’m a big fan of Microsoft’s Summer of Arcade program. In fact, I’ve been wanting Microsoft to do more events like that throughout the year, as I think it’ll draw more attention to the service & spotlight some really good titles. Now, it looks like the folks in Redmond have been listening as they’re planning a Summer of Arcade-esq event for March dubbed Block Party. It’s basically the same thing as the SoA, except in the spring. Below are the four titles that will be featured including pricing, release date & some screenies. So...

Final Fantasy XIII Bundles Up Xbox 360

Final Fantasy XIII Bundles Up Xbox 360
Man, I really need to find a way to have a ‘bundle budget’. You know, a stash of cash that’s dedicated solely to buying the various console bundles that come out as I really want some of them. Case in point is the recently announced (& previously Japan-only) Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 Bundle. Sporting a 250GB HD, 2 controllers, a white console, the game & some Avatar downloads, it’s a solid package…for someone who doesn’t already have an Xbox 360. Considering I already have two consoles & several controllers, $400 is a bit much to pay for a $60...

The ‘Future’ Of Ghost Recon

The ‘Future’ Of Ghost Recon
While it’s been widely rumored for quite some time now (Ghost Recon 4 was “officially” announced last April), Ubisoft has finally spilled the beans: Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will be heading our way this holiday season. According to Ubi’s press release, it’ll “feature cutting-edge technology, prototype high-tech weaponry, and state-of-the-art single-player and multiplayer modes.” I love playing with new weapons & such, so hopefully this won’t be a rehash of what we’ve already seen. The big question for me will be how...

EA Shows Us The Future

EA Shows Us The Future
EA released their 3rd Q Financial Report this afternoon. Typically these are full of a bunch of numbers that most of you won’t really care about. But, once you dig past that, sometimes you’ll find some interesting (& unannounced) information. First up, both APB & the new Medal of Honor title will launch this summer (read July, Aug, or Sept), with the MMO being PC only, but MoH reboot will be on the consoles, PC & the handhelds. The holidays will see Crysis 2 (for both consoles & PC), a new EA Sports Active title, the new Need For Speed game, NBA Jam, EA Sports MMA, a...

Dante’s Inferno Live Chat

Dante’s Inferno Live Chat
With Dante going to Hell tomorrow, there’s a lot of launch festivities planned for what was probably the most uniquely marketed game ever. For those out of the loop, Dante’s Inferno is an Action/Adventure game from EA’s Visceral Games based on part one of Dante Alighieri’s fourteenth-century poem, the Divine Comedy. It follows Dante’s quest to free his beloved from the Underworld. In the process, he’ll have to traverse the nine circles of Hell (Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Wrath, Heresy, Violence, Fraud & Treason), atoning for his past sins along the way....

Xbox Will No Longer Be LIVE

Xbox Will No Longer Be LIVE
While I’m a little late posting this, it’s still relevant judging from the reactions I’ve seen all over the net. At the end of last week, Xbox LIVE General Manager Marc Whitton announced that they will no longer be offering their LIVE service for the original Xbox as of April 15th, 2010. This includes all the original Xbox games that are currently playable on the Xbox 360. Initially, I didn’t think that this would make that much of a difference, as after 4 years, I would think everyone had pretty much moved on from the old console & jumped into the 360 universe. While...

Lego Star Wars Gets ‘Cloned’

Lego Star Wars Gets ‘Cloned’
The popular (& obscenely cute) Lego game franchise will be adding a 3rd title in it’s Star Wars series. Dubbed The Clone Wars, this new game will draw from the Cartoon Network series of the same name, boasting a better level editor, squad command & long distance Jedi attacks. You should see all the characters from the animated series making an appearance in the game along with “some fan-favourite characters from the beloved theatrical Star Wars Saga”. While I enjoy the franchise, it’s certainly a better experience for the younger crowd. I wonder why TT Games opted...

Rock Band Restock 02/09-02/11

Rock Band Restock 02/09-02/11
Megadeth returns to Rock Band this week with Rust in Peace, one of the best metal albums of the 1980’s. Released in 1986, it was big for me personally as at 11 years old, I was just starting to transition away from the Top 40/Adult Contemporary music my Mom listened to (trust me, one can only listen to so much Anne Murrey). Rock & metal were a perfect fit for me, with bands like Quiet Riot, Iron Maiden, Ratt, Van Halen & Aerosmith already on my playlist thanks to buddies, groups like Megadeth, Metallica & Guns & Roses finished off my 80’s Pop habits for good. While I...

Daily Gaming Tidbits 02/08/10

Apparently gamers who haven’t been able to upgrade to an HD display are have been having trouble reading the many lines of text in the recently launched Mass Effect 2. There’s even a thread about it in the official forums. Bioware’s response? Well, according to Mass Effect Project Manager Michael Gamble, “it was a byproduct of enhancements to the user interface” & they can’t address it with a patch, but will keep it in mind for their future Mass Effect titles. I wonder what they’ve done differently since this isn’t the first time this issue has...

This Week On Xbox LIVE Marketplace

This Week On Xbox LIVE Marketplace
Microsoft’s Deal of the Week is actually a 3-fer: Marvel vs Capcom 2 (800 MP), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Reshelled (400 MP) & Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao (800 MP). Honestly, these are the prices they should have been right from the beginning. Especially the TMNT title, which was a very short, yet polished up arcade port & Invincible Tiger, which is one of those games that I personally didn’t get in to. Han Tao was certainly tough to recommend, so even at 800 MP, I suggest you try the demo first. Bookmark It Hide...
