While I’m a little late posting this, it’s still relevant judging from the reactions I’ve seen all over the net. At the end of last week, Xbox LIVE General Manager Marc Whitton announced that they will no longer be offering their LIVE service for the original Xbox as of April 15th, 2010. This includes all the original Xbox games that are currently playable on the Xbox 360. Initially, I didn’t think that this would make that much of a difference, as after 4 years, I would think everyone had pretty much moved on from the old console & jumped into the 360 universe. Wow. I’m honestly surprised by this week. I must have really underestimated the following of the Halo & COD franchises as I fully expected Borderlands to crack the Top 5. On the Arcade side of things, I’m still very happy to see Trials HD sit on top of the list. That game really is one of the best ways to spend 1200MP. One question though: Why are the Xbox Originals still being tracked? I’m assuming they are still being purchased, but I would think they would want to combine it with Games on Demand as they did on the Dashboard. Then again, I would rather see actual sales figures...

Rockstar announced today the return of Max Payne. The original game was developed by Remedy Entertainment, produced by 3D Realms and published by Gathering of Developers in July, 2001 for PC. Later, Rockstar published a port of it to the PS2 & XBOX. The plot revolved around Max Payne, a NYC cop who find his family is murdered by a couple of drug-addled junkies. I don’t know how many of you have an Xbox still under warranty, but if you do, there is change in the air. As of Monday, March 2nd, Microsoft will be discontinuing repair support for the dead system, nor will they be honoring any warranty that may still be in effect. If by chance you do still have a good warranty on the big box, Microsoft still an offer on the table to upgrade to the 360.
