Since I don’t have a DSi & subsequently can’t play the DSiWare games, I tend to reserve my opinions on them. But, this week brings a game that I’ve played on other platforms so for the first time, I’m excited for a DSiWare title. Bookworm is just plain fun & as a by-product, I actually end up learning stuff too. It’s a great game for all ages, so at only $5, I highly recommend grabbing it for all the DSi players in your home. This week is another solid one from the Mario house.Not only do we get the first Harvest Moon title on WiiWare, but we get 2 fantastic Virtual Console games! Super Mario Kart will probably always be my favorite version of the franchise. I bet my buddies & I put more hours into it than any other SNES game. Coming right up behind it is A Boy & His Blob. An NES title that was a ton of platforming fun where you control the shape of your blob by feeding him jelly beans. Looks like I need to track down some more WiiPoints real quick!! A very interesting week for Nintendo as not only did they launch New Super Mario Bros Wii yesterday, but they began dropping some demos of popular WiiWare titles as well as a new Pokemon title. Pokemon Rumble looks (I say looks because all I have is the description to go off of) like Pokemon meets Gears of War 2’s Hoard mode. Color me surprised! For the first time in quite awhile the WiiWare offerings have impressed me more than the Virtual Console offerings this week. Not a lot really catches my eye this week. I wouldn’t mind giving Viking Invasion a spin (DSiWare). You can’t go wrong with the original R-Type & Fighting Street will give you a glance at the Street Fighter franchise before is found it’s place in gaming history (both of which are hitting the Virtual Console). Prepare to spend some points this week as there are a couple of titles this week that should be on your list. First, chapter 3 from the Tales of Monkey Island episodic series is out. If you want classic point & click adventuring with the series staple humor, you can’t go wrong with Tales. Quick question: Out of the three download categories from Nintendo, which one do you check out first? WiiWare, DSiWare, or Virtual Console? To be honest, I have been less than impressed with WiiWare. Nintendo is bringing us another nifty classic to the Virtual Console. I remember putting many hours into Revenge of Shinobi so I can’t wait to add this to my Wii & see if it still has that magic it had for me many years ago. The DSi is getting another Brain Age title. I’m curious how profitable this franchise is since the hype is pretty much dead now days. It must still be making some money for them to be still launching titles for it. This week Nintendo is bringing us a couple for WiiWare, one for the Virtual Console & one for DSiWare. For me, the Lucas Arts SNES platformer Super Star Wars is the number one pick. The Super Nintendo Star Wars games were some of the best ones ever made for the franchise & the sound was phenomenal for the time. It really took advantage of what the SNES could do. Yeah, I’m a day late. So I’m sure a lot of you have already seen this. It’s been a busy few days for me & doesn’t look like it’s letting up for a few more days. Anyway, here is this week’s downloadable selection from the big ‘N’. The only thing here that’s caught my eye is the release of Tecmo Bowl on the Virtual Console. I’ve loved this game ever since it originally launched on the NES. My only problem with it is it didn’t hold up well over time & the reboots have been abysmal at best. This big news this week is the launch ofTales of Monkey Island on WiiWare. It initially launched for PCs earlier this month, which left a lot of the Wii players concerned about how long they would have to wait to continue the adventures of Guybrush Threepwood. Fortunately, the wait wasn’t too long. You can catch my review of the PC version on 360Junkies.com. Another game that has caught my eye is The Three Musketeers: One for All!. Just the idea of controlling the Musketeers in a platformer with the WiiMote has my attention. I hope to have a review of it soon, but I can’t make any promises....
