Disney Buys Marvel

Disney Buys Marvel
I woke up to news this morning that Disney had purchased Marvel Entertainment for 4 billion in cash & stock. That definitely came out of left field for me as I didn’t realize Marvel was on the market. The deal would put Disney as the owner of the entire Marvel portfolio, which amounts to over 5000 characters. At this point, the brands appear to be maintained as separate entities. Who knows how things will play out in 5 or 10 years. In specific reference to video games, current development deals such as the ones with Activision, Sega, THQ & Gazillion Entertainment will stay in place...

Alice In Wonderland Posters (& Trailer!)

Alice In Wonderland Posters (& Trailer!)
Through the Looking Glass is probably one of the best pieces for source material for a director like Tim Burton. The interpretation can go in so many directions & is well suited for the dark style that Burton has. I was pretty excited to find out he was adapting it. Once I found out that Johnny Depp was cast as the Mad Hatter (man, he’s come a long way from 21 Jump Street, hasn’t he?), I was sold instantly. Now, it’s just the waiting game as new items are trickled out to build the hype leading up to the March 5th release date. ComicCon attendees are in for a treat as the first...

Even though ABC hasn’t officially ordered the series, they plan to start marketing Flash Forward during the 100th episode of Lost. Richard Dreyfuss will cameo and Ving Rhames will star in Dimension Films’ horror-thriller remake Piranha 3D. The plot has an earthquake causing Arizona’s Lake Havasu floor to open, setting free scores of prehistoric piranhas. Bookmark It Hide Sites

NRD Pick Of The Week: Marley And Me

This week’s New Release DVD pick is Marley & Me. I have yet to see this film, but my 9-year old daughter not only watched it, but read the book as well. What did she think of it? I’m not saying as I’m going to do something a little different this week. I’m going to have her write her review on it. Everything in the block quote below comes directly from her. Spell check will handle the spelling errors, but I’m not going to adjust it for  comprehension. I’m just going to let her go at it: Bookmark It Hide Sites

New Release DVD Pick Of The Week: Bolt

There are actually two notable releases this week. The latest James Bond film, Quantum of Solace, & Disney’s latest animated film, Bolt. I went with Bolt as I didn’t really care for Quantum. I enjoyed the last Bond film, Casino Royale, much better. So my pick this week is Bolt. A movie that exceeded my expectations as far as kids movies are concerned. It had enough content to keep the kids happy & enough adult humor to keep me interested. The voice work was top notch, so much so that I didn’t realize that Miley Cyrus had a part in it until I caught the credits. Here is...

‘Where The Wild Things Are’ Teaser Poster & Trailer Info

So, here is the teaser poster for ‘Where The Wild Things Are‘. It has been in post-production for quite some time now so I hope they really do get this one released this year. I loved the book when I was a kid & am intrigued to see how Spike Jonez translates it to the big screen. If you want to see it in motion, the first trailer is said to be attached to copies of Dreamworks next CG animated feature, ‘Monsters vs Aliens‘, hitting theaters March 27th. Bookmark It Hide Sites

Movie New Release Pick Of The Week

This one was a toss-up for me. On one hand, ‘The Last House on the Left‘ is a remake of the 1972 Wes Craven classic. I loved the original & I have high hopes for this one. But, in the end, I decided to go with the kid-friendly ‘Race to Witch Mountain‘. I think ultimately, I have more faith in Disney’s re-imagining of their already fun original than I do someone trying to bring horror magic from the 1970’s into modern times. Something just gets lost on the way. ‘Race to Witch Mountain‘ is based on the 1968 novel written by Alexander Key called...

High School Musical Is Headed Back To Class For The 4th Time

Disney will revisit High School Musical next year. Granted, the cast of the first 3 films are getting a bit old for high school, which is why Disney will be redoing the whole thing. We will see a new cast & a new story described as “a classic love triangle set against the cross-town school rivalry between the East High Wildcats and West High Knights”. Considering this will be related to HSM in name only, Disney will be bringing the show back to television as a Disney Channel Original Movie. The guy who wrote the first 3 films, Peter Barsocchini, will write this one as well. Bookmark...

The Mouse House’s Evil Sorcercer Is…..Doc Ock!

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is probably one of my all-time Disney animated sequences. I guess it’s because I watched it at a time when I was very young and just discovering magic, wizards & other such things. Needless to say, I was looking forward to Disney’s live-action adaption. Then, I had heard that Nic Cage was cast as the ‘good’ sorcerer and the only thought that came to me was “Huh?”. I still can’t picture him as any kind of wizard. But, today’s casting announcement made me excited again. Alfred Molina of Spider-Man 2 fame has been...
